Happy Birthday Melissa

Tomorrow is our daughter Melissa's birthday. She is our adult daughter who lives with us. People ask us why she isn't out on her own or gee, aren't you and your husband ready to just be a twosome after raising three kids but you know what? We love it. First of all, she's our middle child and like she says, is finally treated more like an only in, she has our utmost attention. And its nice having another person around to cook, clean and watch HGTV and Say Yest to the Dress with. Honestly, I really like her and we are actually friends. Its like I tell other moms, after what our daughters put us through as teenagers, its wonderful to have them around after they grow up and we can reap the benefits of all that hard work. So happy birthday Melissa. You are everything and more I hoped for when I held you in my arms for the first time.  :)

Its Friday! I love Fridays. Always have. Its a big sigh of relief day as another week is finished, things got done (since the kids have grown up we get all our chores done during the week so weekends are fun, fun, fun), we can sleep in tomorrow (thought my hubby never does) and my favorite part is that it is $5 Friday at Vons. Yeah, I like $5 Friday at Vons a lot. So off we go to see what kind of $5 goodies we can find. I know that this week LUVS diapers are $5 and I have a $1 coupon so they will be only $4 which isn't bad for diapers (I give them to our daughter who still has two in diapers) and there is usually a great deal on $5lb. deli meat which lasts the whole week. And hubby's favorite $5 cookies, muffins and croissants. Yep, we've come to that...our date night is going to the grocery store which can be very romantic with the music and the aisles filled with deals that save us money :). What can I say...we live very very large.

A New Adventure

This blog is called Life in a Slower Lane because our kids are grown, I don't work outside our home and well, I'm on the farther side of should be slower, right? But its not, it seems its fuller, faster, at times more chaotic than ever and not always costing less money than when our children were home. We have kids and grandkids who live out of state and we struggle to keep up with them (thank God for facebook), a son in Los Angeles we rarely see (thank God for texting), kids and grandkids here in town that we see often and a daughter who still lives with us. I keep track of my mom's medical info and take her to all doctor appointments as I am the only one who doesn't have an outside job. My husband is a street evangelist not associated with a specific church which means we live off of the donations of people who believe in the work the Lord has called us to. So much of my time is spent finding new ways to live frugally...God is very good: we raised our children while in the ministry, we still find at the end of the month that everything has been paid for....a big thank God for that :). This blog is my new adventure and I invite you to come along as I explore couponing, savings, grandkids, aging moms, having adult kids still live at home and just the whole kit and kaboodle. Welcome and let's slow down a little. :)
